Obituary

Our beloved father, grandpa, papa, uncle and brother, Gerald L. Hale, of Livonia, Mich., left this world on May 9 to join his wife Anna after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He is survived by his daughters Marianne (Kim) Fenn; Nancy (Tim) Brown; Pamela (Ron) Ingrody; and Ellen (John) Swies; 11 grandchildren, a soon to be great granddaughter; his brother, Carl (Barbara) Hale and many nieces and nephews. Gerald was born in June 29, 1928 in Wyandotte, Mich., to Mary and Lester. He entered the U.S. Air Force upon graduation from Wyandotte High School. He became a staff sergeant and flew as a navigator on a refueling plane during the Korean War. While stationed at McDill Air Force base in Tampa, Fla., he met and married Anna (Yann), a registered nurse. They moved to Detroit where he took a job as a patrolman for the Detroit Police Department. He rose in the ranks of the department and retired as a Deputy Chief of Police after over 35 years of service. He then worked for Chrysler in corporate investigations. Gerald was a skilled carpenter, an avid fisherman, bird watcher, and loved reading about the Civil War. He will be remembered by all who knew and loved him as a highly intelligent man with a wonderful sense of humor.
