Obituary

8/18/1925 – 12/4/2022
George Henry Giese passed away peacefully on December 4, 2022, at the age of 97. George was the beloved husband of the late Caroline for 46 years.
George was born on August 18, 1925, to Arthur and May (Husken) Giese. He was the second youngest of eight children; Donald, Harvey, Herbert, Dorothy, Charles, Arthur Jr., George, and Margaret. He was predeceased by both his parents as well as all his siblings. While his brothers were busy playing sports, George would walk down the street to take piano lessons from a neighbor. This began a love of music that continued his entire lifetime.
George attended Cass Technical High School in Detroit. Upon graduation, he landed an apprenticeship at the J.L. Hudson company where he learned to be a tailor, a position that he held for the remainder of his working life, except for a two-year period in the Army. He was drafted into the Army in September 1950 and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in September 1952.
Upon his return to Detroit, he began to get more involved in his passion, music. He became the backup organist at St. James Lutheran Church, and then he became the choir director for both the adult and youth choirs. In addition to his musical duties at the church, George also taught some Sunday School classes and served as a youth counselor. It was during his time as a youth counselor that he met the love of his life Caroline, who was also a youth counselor.
George and Caroline were married on November 28, 1969. They lived in Detroit until they moved to Novi in October 1981. That's when George's musical career really took off. While he greatly enjoyed playing the organ and piano, his love of singing was even greater, and his beautiful voice was truly a God given instrument. George joined the Novi Choralaires choral group and sang with them for nearly thirty years, performing numerous solos and duets during that time.
George loved performing and, with the encouragement of Caroline, the two of them began singing, dancing, and acting with, first, the Novi theatre group and then, with the Beyond Belief Senior Theatre group. George and Caroline also periodically conducted "Sing-Along with George and Caroline" sessions at the Novi Senior Center up until her death in 2016.
George was a gentle soul with an incredible voice and infectious smile. He is survived by Caroline's son John Logsdon, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
