It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Gene Tunney Crawford Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He passed peacefully at home with his wife, Susan, of 28 years, by his side on October 14, 2023, at 74 years old.

Gene was born in Detroit, Michigan, on October 1, 1949, where he spent most of his life working in sales in the heating and cooling industry, watching his children grow, and enjoying time with his family and friends. Gene and Susan moved to Florida in 2018 to enjoy retirement in beautiful Fort Myers.

Throughout his life, Gene's magnetic personality made you instantly gravitate to him for his stories and advice. He had a caring demeanor and was always available to listen and coach when life threw obstacles your way. He loved to be involved in the community around him, whether helping Susan as a small business owner in Michigan or serving on the Board of Directors for his Florida community.

Gene's love for sports ran deep, and he always wore a sports shirt or hat representing one of his kids' or grandkids' teams. If Papa Gene wasn't watching or attending sports, he was talking about sports, or bragging about his kids' sports. In retirement, he enjoyed golfing, pickleball, bocce ball, hanging around the pool, and shooting the breeze with everyone. Gene was a dedicated catholic throughout his life and regularly attended church wherever he was.

Gene's legacy will live on daily through his wife, children, grandchildren, and anyone fortunate enough to call him a friend. He is survived by his wife, Susan Andrea, children, Matt (Shelley) Crawford, Meredith (Jim) Harding, Melissa (Mike) Bullion, Bret McGlothlen, and Travis (Cassidy) McGlothlen, as well as nine grandchildren, Brady (14), Colton (13), Jackson (11), Madison (10), Bailey (7), Rexton (5), Calvin (4), Lucy (4), and Violet (3).

Visitation will be held at the O'Brien/Sullivan Funeral Home, 41555 Grand River Avenue, Novi, MI, on Sunday, October 22, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a rosary at 7:30 PM. The funeral service will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday, October 23, 2023, at 1:15 PM. The interment will take place at Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens in Novi MI.
