Gary
Riehl
Aug 11, 1953 — Aug 14, 2026
Gary “Gator” Riehl of Novi, MI, died August 14, 2026, following a long-term illness. He was born on August 11, 1953 in Port Huron, MI, the son of the late Loretta “Joyce” and John Riehl, Jr.
Gary was a 1971 graduate of Port Huron Northern High School and after attending some college, went on to work at Huron Automatic Screw Company (HASCO) at an early age. He delighted in his job, and was excited about every responsibility he gained. Due his personal qualities, he achieved a role in supervision, which he maintained for 30 years until his retirement. He was extremely appreciative of every day of his employment and the multiple opportunities provided to him by the Brooks family at HASCO.
During Gary’s childhood and young adult years, he developed an immense passion for snow skiing where his athleticism and creativity shined. He was proudly self-taught and delighted in developing original aerial ballet moves, like his signature “outrigger.” He always drew crowds that were in awe of his gracefulness on the slopes.
As a lifelong, natural musician, Gary crafted his own melodies and found great pleasure as a singer-songwriter. He played the acoustic guitar, alto saxophone, and had a superb voice.
Gary was extraordinarily benevolent, exceptionally placid, and possessed an incomparable capacity for gratitude. He truly appreciated the small joys in life like family, nature, hunting, fishing, and a good cup of black coffee.
Gary is survived by his wife, Susan; daughter Sarah Riehl; grandchildren, Nathan Riehl, Colin Riehl and Julia Salinsky; siblings, Jeff (Jane) Riehl, Terry Dagg, James (Kathy) Mitrink; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Gary was preceded in death by his son, Ryan Riehl; twin brother, Jerry Riehl; brother, Robert Riehl; sister, Stephanie Mitrink; and his parents, John and Gladys Riehl and Robert and Joyce Krenke.
There will be no memorial services due to Gary’s own wishes, which is a beautiful testament to the humility with which he lived all his days. He would want his life to be celebrated in your prayers and thoughts. He will be deeply missed by all of the lives he touched.
