Fred Charles Cotter
April 3, 1931 – December 20, 2022
Beloved husband of Gai married for 66 years.
Loving father of Theresa (Paul), Barbara, Michael (Kim), Susan (Lee), and Diane (Paul).
Dear grandfather of Gregory, Brandon, Douglas, Matthew and Stephanie (Jesse).
Treasured great grandfather of Cassidy, Gavin, Gracin, and Gavin S.
Sweet brother of William (the late Linda).
He is also survived by caregiver and friend Catrenia, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Fred served as a lieutenant in the United States Air Force in both Japan and Korea. He is a graduate of both Michigan State University and The University of Michigan. After graduation he worked and retired from General Motors. Fred loved his family. He took the time to listen to his family's stories and was genuinely interested in the lives of those around him. With his caring nature he volunteered at many different organizations. He was an usher at St. Genevieve. He and Gai both volunteered at Beaumont Hospital as well as the Michigan Humane Society in Westland, even fostering dogs. He was a docent at Greenmead Historical Park and earlier in life at the Detroit Historical Museum. At tax time, Fred offered his services at the Livonia Senior Center to help prepare tax returns. While Fred gave so much of his time to others, he also made time for himself. He loved to golf, and travel with his beloved wife Gai. He was an avid runner for years and transitioned to daily walking later in life. In his down time when he wasn't with his family or volunteering, he was reading. In addition to his serious side, Fred was well known and loved for his dry sense of humor and one-liners, making everyone around him smile. Fred was a thoughtful, caring man who will be missed by all who knew him.
