Ferguson H. "Fergus" Campbell
January 5, 1944 – February 21, 2026
Ferguson H. Campbell, known to all who loved him as Fergus, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026, in Livonia, Michigan, at the age of 82.
Born on January 5, 1944, in Hamilton, Scotland, Fergus was the youngest son of Elizabeth Campbell Hamilton and Andrew Dingwall Scott Campbell. Raised in Scotland, he met his beloved Agnes at the age of 16, married in 1965, and became proud parents of David James Campbell in 1966, and Linda Hamilton Campbell in 1969. Fergus carried his heritage proudly throughout his life. In 1980, his employment as a Director of Manufacturing at Burroughs Corporation brought him and his family to the United States—an opportunity that marked a new chapter filled with professional achievement, opportunity for his children, and enduring friendships.
Fergus was a mechanical engineer whose education, work ethic, and dedication were sources of great pride. He worked diligently until just recently, embodying his belief in staying mentally active and engaged. He loved his profession and the sense of purpose it gave him.
Beyond his career, Fergus had a wide range of passions. He was an avid student of aviation history and World War II history, always eager to share a fascinating story or historical insight. A true foodie, he appreciated a well-prepared meal, a fine Scotch, and a good cigar—often enjoyed while reminiscing and telling stories with his signature warmth and wit.
Above all, Fergus was deeply committed to his family. He was warm, friendly, caring, and loving—a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He took immense pride in his children, grandchildren, education, and the life he built through hard work and determination.
Fergus is survived by his children, David (Gina) Campbell and Linda (Andrew) Apsey; his brother, Andrew Scott Campbell; and his cherished grandchildren, Heather Blair, Nicole Blair, Ashley Campbell, and Weston Apsey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 53 years, Agnes McDonald Smart (Smith) Campbell; and his sister, Margaret White.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., immediately followed by a memorial service at 4:00pm, on Friday, February 27, 2026, at O'Brien/Sullivan Funeral Home, 41555 Grand River Ave., Novi, MI 48375.
