Obituary

Errol L. Douglas

It is with deep sadness, we announce the passing of Errol Littleton Douglas Sr., who died at the age of 82 on Monday, November 25, 2024. "Doug" passed away peacefully in West Bloomfield in the loving care of his children. He was a beloved father to 8 children: Wendy Belle, Christina Douglas, Errol Douglas II (wife: Rudenia), Laura Armstrong (husband: Benjamin "Ben"), Malcolm Douglas, Karyn Dodge, Melanie Hennings, and Lorre Douglas. He was also a cherished Grand Dad (don't call him a grandpa!) of 18 grandchildren: Kiara Triplett, Uneque Volel, Tylre Belle, Kyle McGough, Kiana Skillman, Shaylena Dodge, Errol Douglas III, Arliene Armstrong, Braydon Dodge, Amelia Armstrong, Syian Douglas, Michaela Hennings, Hailey Hennings, Malcolm Douglas-Ruttan Jr., Arya Hennings, Ethan Douglas, Grace Ruttan, JeJuan Jr. and one Great Grandchild: Kaiden Alexander. Doug also has 5 loving siblings surviving him: Roslyn "Sister Baby" Stewart, Callie "Red" Holloway, Gregory Johnson (wife: Patricia), Mark Johnson, and Tammy Pittman along with 5 late siblings: William Douglas, Gwendolyn Douglas, Ronald Douglas, Brooksie Pickett, and Darrell Johnson, along with many surviving nieces and nephews.

Doug was the son of William Douglas and Callie (Burkley) Johnson, however, he was raised by the loving Miss Laura Marie Blanks in Memphis, Tennessee. In his early twenties, he moved to Michigan to begin his career at Ford Motor Company and ended up retiring in the early 2000's allowing him to focus on his hobbies: bowling and photography. He was a professional and a perfectionist in his talents bowling over a 200 score during practice! As well as having you smile for minutes to capture the right angle, the right lighting, the right moment, to develop the perfect picture. He transitioned his art form from developing film in the basement to utilizing digital cameras, editing pictures for hours on the computer.

Additionally, "Doug" was an advocate of getting an education and a leading example for his children, accomplishing his associate's degree at Wayne County Community College in the early 80's. He would always say "I have my Associate's, so you have to get your bachelor's". In the end, he created Engineers, Business owners, a Logistics Sr. expert, a Chemist, and a Speech therapist.

In 2013, "Doug" found a church home (Note: he grew up in the church and frequently went with Miss Marie Blanks, so the transition to be involved heavily in the church was easily made). He became a member at Whitehead Cathedral Church of God in Christ (COGIC) (formerly Whitehead Memorial COGIC) and was accompanied by his daughter who was a praise dancer and his other daughter who moved to Texas. He was in church 3 days a week attending bible study; creating a prayer line with many of his brothers (to name a few): Elder Saxton, Elder Jack Whitehead, Deacon Mason, and Deacon Ottis Bell; shoveling snow and any other services requested by the late Bishop James Whitehead Jr.

In 2023, "Doug" made another remarkable accomplishment with accepting a deacon confirmation becoming Deacon Douglas by Dr. Pastor Avery Brown of Whitehead Cathedral COGIC. In his final hours, his daughters called the 9am prayer line so he was able to receive his last prayer with his brothers.
Rather you knew him as Doug, Mr. Douglas, Errol, Dad, Uncle, Granddad, or Deacon Douglas, in the end, he was a blessing to all, but most importantly, he was also blessed by having so many that loved him. Thank you to all the loving family, friends, and church family because you made his life incredible! Stay Blessed!

A funeral service will be held on December 4th at 11am located at Whitehead Cathedral Church of God in Christ 2069 Tyler Rd, Ypsilanti, MI 48198 with visitation 10 am until time of service. In honor of Deacon Douglas, donations may be made to the church.
