Obituary

Emily Deyette Kresge

Emily Deyette Kresge, born on December 7, 1922, in Brockton, Massachusetts, was a strong and independent woman who devoted her life to her family, her nursing career, and the many interests that brought her joy.

Emily was a proud graduate of Quincy Hospital School of Nursing and served her country during World War II as a member of the United States Army Nurse Corps. Her service as a nurse reflected her dedication and strength, and she continued to give back to others through volunteer work at Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital.

While Emily accomplished much throughout her life, her greatest pride was always her five children and their families. One of her greatest joys was gathering everyone around the holiday table, creating memories and celebrating the family she cherished. She took great pride in watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow, and her love for her family remained at the center of her life.

Outside of her family and nursing, Emily enjoyed playing bridge, where she achieved the distinguished rank of Life Master. She also loved fishing, both deep-sea and on the lake, reading, and hosting holiday parties. Whether enjoying a favorite pastime or bringing loved ones together, Emily appreciated the experiences and traditions that made life meaningful.

Emily is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Kresge, Barbara (Robert) Spafford, and Karen (Bill) Hazelton; her son, Gary (Dolly) Kresge; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Bertha Deyette; her beloved husband, Robert F. Kresge, in 2006; her son, Alan D. Kresge, in 2021; and her siblings, Ruth Donovan and Richard Deyette.

Emily will be remembered for her independence, determination, devotion to her family, and the remarkable life she lived in service to others. Her legacy lives on through the generations of family she loved so dearly and the many memories they will continue to share. Memorial donations may be made to Smile Train or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Service arrangements will be announced at a later date.
