Elaine Dolores Mullaly, daughter of William (Jose) Mullaly and Bridget (Peg Winter) Mullaly was born April 30, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan.
She passed away October 22, 2021. She was preceded in death by her siblings (Zita, Bill, Ed, Don, Janet). She is survived by 19 nieces and nephews and several grand nieces and nephews.
Elaine graduated from St. Gregory's High School June 1946. She worked at Hudson's until September when she entered the IHM religious community in Monroe, Michigan and took the name Sr. Marie deLourdes.
She earned her BA degree from Marygrove College and her MA degree in English Literature from Notre Dame University. She accomplished her doctorate work at the University of Michigan.
Elaine's teaching career as an IHM was in Monroe at st. John (1949-1950), Chicago at St. Felicitas (1950-1952), Flint at St. Michael (1953-1957), Miami at St. Michael (1957-1960), Detroit at Holy Redeemer (1960-62), Ann Arbor at St. Thomas (1962-1964), and Detroit at All Saints (1964-1970) where she served as principal until its closing in 1970.
In 1970 Elaine left the IHM community and began teaching at Southfield High School (1970-1988). She also taught psychology and English part time at Lawrence Tech University.
In 1988, she retired, moved to Florida, and began investing and managing various properties with her business partner and life-time friend, June Maurer.
In 2015, she moved to Fox Run in Novi, Michigan where she enjoyed meeting old friends and making new ones. She enjoyed and appreciated the camaraderie, the peace, and the security provided by her new Fox Run home.
Elaine's main hobbies were reading, traveling and genealogy. She traced her family roots to Denmark, Ireland and Newfoundland. In her extensive travel and research she was able to find and visit first cousins and great aunts and uncles whom she had never met.
Her sense of humor, her quick repartees and her quiet gentleness will be missed.
A remembrance service will be at a later date.
Cremation has taken place and burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield, MI.
