Eileen M. Roy, passed peacefully on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 in Plymouth at the age of 91. Eileen Marie Flanagan Roy: A Life of Love and Dedication
Eileen Marie Flanagan Roy, the beloved youngest of three siblings, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and cherished memories. Eileen was born and raised in Detroit to John and Frances Flanagan, both proud Irish immigrants who instilled in her the values of family, faith, and resilience.
Eileen grew up in a close-knit Irish family, sharing her childhood with her dear brother, Jack, and her beloved sister, Josephine (Jo). Despite the heartache of losing both her siblings in the past decade, Eileen's spirit remained strong and her heart open to those around her.
She was married to the love of her life, Don Roy, for approximately 35 wonderful years. Don was a man loved by all who knew him, and together they created a home filled with joy, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Weekends spent swimming in their pool and making homemade ice cream are fondly remembered by family and friends alike. Don passed away in 1994, leaving a void in Eileen's heart, but she found solace in the beautiful memories they created together.
Eileen and Don were devoted parents to their adopted son, Brian Patrick Roy, whom they welcomed into their family in 1970. Brian was a vibrant young man who had a passion for sports, especially hockey and swimming. His untimely passing at the age of 18 was a devastating blow to Eileen, a loss from which she never fully recovered. Despite this immense sorrow, she continued to show strength and grace, holding onto the love she had for her son.
A dedicated member of St. Robert Bellarmine Church, Eileen worked tirelessly for the parish just up the street from her home. Her involvement in the church community was a testament to her unwavering faith and her desire to serve others.
Eileen is survived by many dear nieces and nephews, her sister-in-law Kay Flanagan, and her brother-in-law Richard Wykoff. She also leaves behind her dearest friends, David and Connie Kallis, who stood by her side through thick and thin.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to everyone at Independence Village in Plymouth for their care and compassion over the past three years.
Eileen Marie Flanagan Roy will be remembered for her boundless love, her dedication to her family and faith, and her remarkable resilience. May she rest in peace, reunited with her beloved Don and Brian, and her dear siblings Jack and Jo.
