Edward (Ed) Peter Hickey, age 98, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2022. Beloved husband of the late Marion (Andres) for over 71 years. Survived by his children Daniel, Kathryn, Kevin (lvy), Susan, David, James (Stacey), and Ronald. Preceded in death by daughter, Sharon Lewis (Jeff). Also survived by 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Ed was born in Detroit Michigan in 1924 and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1942. After high school he went to work at the Willow Run Bomber plant working 7 days a week. Later in 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he earned his wings as an aircraft carrier pilot on the USS Saginaw Bay flying F4F Wildcats. He graduated number one in his class in 1955 with a degree in civil engineering from Detroit Institute of Technology. In 1946, he met the love of his life Marion Andres, whom he married in 1947. They went on to have 8 children while residing in Detroit, Farmington Hills and Novi.
Ed began his decades long career in the glass business at Howe-Martz Glass Company in Detroit. He then moved on to work for P.H. Piper as a General Contractor. In 1977 he purchased Peterson Glass Company, that is presently owned and operated by three of his sons. He was actively involved in Construction Association of Michigan (CAM) serving on the board of directors and on the oversight committee for CAM Credit Union. Ed also served as President of the Glazing Contractors Association.
He was an active member of both Farmington Hills and Walnut Creek Country Club.
He will be missed by family, friends and loved ones.
Gathering of family and friends at the O'Brien/Sullivan Funeral Home, 41555 Grand River Avenue, Novi, 248-348-1800 on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 from 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Memorial visitation Thursday, September 22, 2022 at Brightmoor Church, 40800 W 13 Mile Road, Novi from 9:00 AM until time of Memorial Service 9:30 AM. Interment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly.
