Dr. Ram Lakhan
Prasad
January 2, 1953 – April 8, 2026
Dr. Ram Lakhan Prasad, a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, respected educator, and man of deep faith, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2026, in Superior Township, Michigan, USA. He was born on January 2, 1953, in Biharsharif, Bihar, India.
A pioneer in his family, Dr. Prasad was the first to attend college, ultimately earning a PhD in Biochemistry. His lifelong dedication to education and science led him to a distinguished academic career. He served as a University Professor and Head of the Department of Biochemistry at Ranchi Veterinary College, Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi, India. His leadership and commitment to excellence culminated in his appointment as Dean of Ranchi Veterinary College, a role he held with pride and distinction for six years until his retirement.
Dr. Prasad’s achievements extended beyond his professional titles. As a founding member and the first President of the Society of Veterinary Biochemists & Biotechnologists of India (SVBBI), he contributed significantly to his field. Earlier in life, he displayed remarkable academic brilliance by achieving a rare 100% score in Mathematics in his High School Board Examination.
He began his career as a veterinary doctor in Bahragoda before rising through the academic ranks—from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor, and eventually to Professor and Head of Department. His educational journey started at Town School in Biharsharif, followed by intermediate studies at Patna University, and advanced degrees (BVSc, MVSc, PhD) from the Indian Veterinary Research Institute in Bareilly.
Beyond his professional life, Dr. Prasad found immense joy in simple and meaningful pursuits. Visiting his ancestral village and tending to family farmlands brought him great happiness. In recent years, he took pride in backyard gardening. A passionate teacher at heart, he loved sharing knowledge of biology and chemistry with his grandchildren, often weaving in stories from scriptures. He also enjoyed tinkering with electronics and fixing things, always curious and engaged.
Known for his gentle wisdom and reassuring words, he often said, “Achha, Sab Theek Hai” (“Everything is just fine”) and “Sab ho jaayega dheere dheere” (“Everything will happen, slowly but surely”). To his beloved grandchildren, he affectionately said, “Shona Shona, Dulaara,” words that will forever echo in their hearts.
Dr. Prasad was an eternal optimist—intelligent, determined, hardworking, and deeply spiritual. His faith was unwavering; he never missed an opportunity to perform puja and honor his devotion to God. Even in difficult times, he quietly bore his burdens, always striving to keep his family free from worry and surrounded by love.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Damyanti Prasad; his son Ashwini (Rajan) Kumar; his daughter Smriti (Pinki) Singh; daughter-in-law Roopam Sinha; son-in-law Binod Singh; and his cherished grandchildren Anvay, Avyan, Neal, and Arnav. He is also survived by his sister, Janak Devi.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Barho Devi and Ram Kishun Prasad.
Dr. Ram Prasad’s proudest moments included serving as Dean and witnessing the achievements and growth of his grandchildren, whose successes brought him immense joy.
He will be remembered as a pillar of strength, a guiding light of knowledge, and a source of unconditional love. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the students he mentored, and the family he cherished above all else.
Cremation services were completed on April 11, 2026, at Southern Michigan Services.
His life was one of purpose, humility, and enduring love—a life that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
