Dolores Catherine Shinske, born on September 14, 1941, in Ireland, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2024. She was the beloved daughter of the late Albert and Bridget.
At the age of 13, Dolores moved to Canada and spent her formative years on a Native American Reservation. In her late teens she moved on her own to the city of Vancouver, where she enjoyed a bustling city life. Not long into her stay in the city she met an American Sailor named Gerald, who would take his leaves from his Seattle naval base in the city of Vancouver. Eventually she relocated with Gerald to his home state of Michigan. Together, they shared 50 years of marriage until his passing.
Dolores dedicated 23 years of her life to West Bloomfield Schools, where she made a significant impact as a Special Education Teacher. Her dedication and compassion for her students were evident in all she did.
She was a loving mother to Rosheen, the late Rian, and Drew (Amanda), and a cherished grandmother to Shane, Savannah, Darius, Brennan, Mackenzie and London. Dolores was also a dear sister to the late Peg, Marie, Eileen, Roisin, Noel, Jimmy, Bertie, Betty, and Kathleen.
Dolores had a passion for traveling and cherished the time spent with her family. Her caring nature and love for those around her will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dolores can be made to the Wounded Warriors Project. Dolores will be laid to rest alongside her beloved Gerald at the Great Lakes National Cemetery.
May her soul rest in eternal peace.
