Obituary

Deloris J. Roman
April 8, 1934 – April 7, 2025

Deloris J. Roman, a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2025 in Novi, Michigan, just one day shy of her 91st birthday.

Born on April 8, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois, Deloris lived a life marked by love, purpose, service, and adventure. She graduated from St. Leo's High School in Detroit and later earned a Purchasing Certificate from Macomb Community College. In her early career, she worked in office positions at Ford and Chrysler before dedicating herself full-time to raising her family in the 1960s and 1970s. She also shared her creativity as an adult-education sewing instructor. Later, she worked as a Purchasing Buyer for George Instrument Co. and Kelly Services and eventually enjoyed the challenge of being a Real Estate Agent with Real Estate One before retiring.

Deloris was an avid traveler with a deep curiosity about the world. After retirement, she explored extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia; sometimes with the Nomads Travel Club and other times with her mother or other family. Her enthusiasm for life and learning made every trip an adventure to be cherished.

Her strong Roman Catholic faith was the cornerstone of her life. Before moving to Novi, Deloris was a long-time and devoted volunteer at Guardian Angels and St. Dennis churches, as well as over a decade at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. At Fox Run Village, where she lived independently for 19 years, she remained an active and valued member of the community—serving on various committees, contributing to the newspaper, helping at masses, singing in the choir, and leading a chapter of TOPS Club that she happily started. Fox Run also brought her great joy through daily companionship with her dear sister-in-law, Helen, who moved there in 2012.

Those who knew Deloris would describe her with affection using the very letters of her name:

Diplomatic
Enthusiastic
Loving
Outgoing (and organized!)
Realist
Independent (as she would say, "sometimes to a fault")
Satisfied

Among Deloris's proudest accomplishments were becoming a mother and grandmother. She is survived by her loving son, John Roman, and his wife, Michelle; her cherished grandchildren, Kelsey Roman (Joshua Waldorf), Mark Roman, and Scott Roman. She also leaves behind dear friends and extended family members whose lives she touched with her warmth and wisdom.

Deloris was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward Roman; her mother, Helen Waskiewicz; her stepfather, Joseph Waskiewicz; and her father, Albert Dziedzina, who passed away when she was just eight years old.
