The Construction Industry loses a Bonding and Insurance Legend
Delano Albert Valenti, a Bonding and Insurance Executive passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013 from a long illness. Mr. Valenti, was born November 9, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan to his parents, Martha and Albert Valenti. Mr. Valenti is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, Marlene Valenti, son Stephen Delano Valenti (Cheryl), grandson Brendan. Brother to Marilyn Lee (Harlan), Julie Gleeson, predeceased by his sister Donna MacDonald (Stanley). He was loved by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Delano Valenti attended St Gregory Catholic School and graduated from Detroit Catholic Central High School in 1954. Delano enlisted in the United States Navy, and following his service to his country, he enrolled at the University of Detroit where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Finance and Accounting.
Delano's successful career began at Maryland Casualty as an Account Manager and later at CNA Insurance where he became a Bonding Manager. Delano founded Valenti, Trobec and Chandler, Inc. (VTC) of Troy, Michigan, a Bonding and Insurance firm, where he specialized in the Bonding of Construction companies throughout the United States. His ability to recognize a company's strengths and core values created opportunities for numerous Michigan Construction firms to expand and succeed, in addition to VTC becoming one of the largest Bonding and Insurance firms in the Midwest.
Delano was a very giving man who helped so many friends and family members throughout his life. Upon his retirement in the bonding and insurance industry, Delano and his son Stephen Valenti developed and operated a restaurant/bar, "Albert's on the Alley", located in Garden City, Michigan, named after Del's Father, Albert Valenti. "I have lost my best friend, my Father and mentor, but he will live with me every day. I will use all the things he has taught me in life, business, and parenting and to strive to be the man he was. I am proud to have been my Fathers son and to have enjoyed working with each other to achieve success", said his son Stephen Valenti.
In addition, Delano was also a Partner and CFO at C.E. Gleeson Constructors, Inc of Troy, Michigan.
Delano enjoyed traveling with his beloved wife Marlene, his son and friends, golfing, telling jokes to his friends and family, and his uncanny knowledge of world history, current events, novels and movies were incomparable to all that shared his precious life. He will be greatly missed by all.
Visitation is Wednesday 4:00-8:00 pm and Thursday 1:00-8:00 pm at O'Brien Sullivan Funeral Home 41555 Grand River Ave, Novi, Michigan. A rosary begins at 7:00 pm Thursday.
Funeral services begin at 1:00 pm at Detroit Catholic Central High School, 27225 Wixom Rd., Novi, Michigan.
