Obituary

David Elden Mowers, age 84, of Novi, Michigan, passed away on July 11, 2025.

David was born on January 8, 1941, in Welch, West Virginia to Rev. Elden and Rachel Mowers. He and his siblings spent their early years living in several states as well as Cuba, following their father's Episcopal clerical appointments. His family eventually settled in Michigan where they helped to establish The Church of the Redeemer Episcopal Church in Southfield.

After high school, David went on to study at Michigan State University. During his time there, he was an active member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.

He graduated from Michigan State University in 1963 and took a job with General Motors, where he worked for over 38 years in labor relations and employee benefits. He built many lifelong friendships there, and his colleagues gave him the enduring nickname of the "word man" because of his vast vocabulary and writing talents.

A faithful member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Rochester, David found joy in service as a lay minister and religious educator. He also enjoyed genealogy research, music, movies, and cheering on Detroit and Michigan State sports teams with family and friends.

Family and faith were at the heart of David's life. He treasured the simple, meaningful moments of connection with those he loved most. He will be remembered for his strength, kindness, and warm sense of humor.

David is survived by both of his siblings, Robert (Barbara) Mowers and Ruth Tourin. He also leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Karen, whom he cherished. He was a proud and loving father to Matthew (Caroline) Mowers and Laura (Jon) Cannata, and an adoring grandfather to Jacob, James, Rachel, William, and Audrey.

Though we grieve, we rejoice in the assurance of David's eternal peace. His life was a testament to the love of God, the joy of family, and the quiet strength of a faithful servant. His spirit lives on in the hearts he touched.

Visitation will be held on August 4, 2025, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at St. Philip's Episcopal Church, 100 Romeo Rd., Rochester. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM.
