Obituary

Daniel Ray Coleman

December 27, 1959 – October 13, 2026

Daniel Ray Coleman, age 66, of Novi, Michigan, passed away on October 13, 2026, after a long and difficult battle with pulmonary fibrosis caused by undiagnosed rheumatoid arthritis. Though his illness brought many challenges over the past three years, Dan can now rest peacefully, free from the oxygen concentrators and demanding medication schedule that had become part of his daily life. His family finds comfort in knowing he is at peace and has met his Maker.

Dan was the beloved husband of Denise (Stirsman) Coleman, with whom he shared more than 30 years of marriage. He was a proud father to his three sons, Damien Coleman, Drake Coleman, and Dillon Coleman, who will forever cherish his memory.

Dan was the son of Lawton Ray (Dorothy) Coleman and the late Anita Vernice (Zimmerman) James. He is also survived by his siblings, Wanda Sloop, Debbie (Ronnie) Bass, Tim Parish, Terry (Julie) Parish, and Kurt (Pam) Coleman, along with many step-siblings including Mike (Patty) James and Saundra James.

He leaves behind his beloved in-laws, Charles and Edna Stirsman; brothers-in-law John (Melissa) Stirsman and Matt Stirsman; and his best friend of more than 50 years, Andy Darnell. Dan will also be remembered fondly by his many nieces and nephews, extended family members, and friends whose lives he touched throughout the years.

Throughout his working life, Dan spent many years in grocery warehousing before transitioning into the automotive industry. There, he worked for several suppliers, managing Just In Time operations. He medically retired in 2013.

Dan's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to his special hospice care team with Residential Hospice for the compassion and support they provided, helping to honor his wishes to remain at home.

A funeral service will be held at O’Brien/Sullivan Funeral Home, 41555 Grand River Avenue, Novi, Michigan. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 19, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a brief service at 7:00 p.m. Dan will be laid to rest in a private committal service with his family.
