Christine ("Chris") Elizabeth Hunter passed away on Christmas Eve 2022, at the age of eighty-one. Christine passed peacefully in the afternoon on one of her favorite holidays to celebrate with family. Christmas Eve dinners at her house were usually a simple affair with cold cuts, ham sandwiches, hors d'oeuvres, and Christine's shrimp bisque. On many Christmas Eves, the family would help decorate the Christmas tree, and Chris enjoyed the tree until late January or even mid- to late-February.
Christine was born in 1941 in Highland Park, Michigan, to loving parents Rose and Otto Pacht. She grew up on the west side of Detroit. After marrying Henry William Hunter, Chris and Hank bought a home in northwest Detroit to raise a family. They were married for more than 30 years. She is survived by two sons, Jeffrey (Margaret) and Matthew; her brother, Dennis Pacht; brother-in-law Jerry Hunter; daughter-in-law Shamaine; and two nieces, Julie and Laura. Loving Grandmother to Erin Elizabeth, Lucas Weslee, and Maggie Christine.
A middle-school math teacher for many, many years in the Detroit public school system, Chris loved teaching and mentoring children. In retirement, she served as a tutor and mentor to numerous young students who needed extra help.
Anyone who knew Chris knows that she was a selfless, giving, loving person who never said a cross word about anyone or anything. She enjoyed her family and her grandchildren immensely and spent countless hours babysitting the grandkids. She loved gardening at home and at her cottage, a treasured house that she helped build from the ground up with her parents and her brother Dennis. She enjoyed watching her kids and grandkids play in hockey games, sing in choir concerts, and loved spending time with her husband, her brother, her parents, her in-laws, and extended family and friends.
A visitation will be held at O'Brien/Sullivan Funeral Home, in Novi, Michigan, on Friday, December 30, beginning at 12:00 p.m. A brief service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on that day. in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association click here to contribute
