Obituary

Carol Lucille Richie, passed on Saturday, December 10, 2022 in Ann Arbor at the age of 78.

Carol Lucille Richie was born in Detroit, MI, on August 28th, 1944 to William and Hazel Raynes. She was the older sister to Bill Raynes and Terry (Ray) Redmond. She was the proud mother of Sean (Anca) Senecal and Rob Senecal. What made her even more filled with joy was the birth of her beloved granddaughter, Colette Senecal, in 2017, who she spent countless hours with doing what grandmothers do best. She also enjoyed a special relationship with her dearly departed husband's children, Charmaine and Rob, and their families. Recently she spent a fun-filled day with her sister's children, R.J., Megan, Hunter and Lucas. It was a day that we are delighted she got to experience. She also got to reconnect with her brother's twin girls, Kellie and Kristie, and their respective families.

Carol was married to Richard Senecal and later to Doug Richie, both of whom preceded her in death. She spent many of her active retirement years with Jim Dawson, who also passed before her. She enjoyed many strong friendships and stayed active with the "Robinwood Ladies" and her dear neighbors in South Lyon.

A proud graduate of MSU and EMU, Carol really enjoyed watching MSU football, especially when a certain school flubbed a punt. Her love of MSU football took her to the Rose Bowl in 2014 with Jim, Sean and Rob. It was a truly wonderful experience that we will remember forever.

Career-wise, Carol spent 35 years educating the students of Livonia at various elementary schools, finishing her career at Frost Middle School, where her son has continued on the family legacy. Retirement didn't slow Carol down as she volunteered at her church, guided therapy dogs through a local hospital, and got to see the world with Doug, Jim and her friends. Golf was also a favorite pastime of Carol and she really enjoyed the friendships she developed on the course. Music was also one of her great loves and she recently attended the Rolling Stones concert in Detroit with her son Rob.

Truly a fighter to the end, Carol was afflicted with many health challenges over the years with cancer being a recurring issue. We, her family, are proud to say cancer never conquered her and would like to thank U of M Hospital for their truly compassionate care delivered to her in her final weeks..
