Carmel Mizzi
January 29, 1929 – July 3, 2025
Carmel Mizzi, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and man of deep faith, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025, at the age of 96.
Born in Luqa, Malta, to Joseph and Andreana Mizzi, Carmel lived a life defined by quiet strength, faith, and hard work. He received his education at De La Salle Catholic College in Malta and went on to serve as a maritime engine fitter in the British Navy. His commitment to his Catholic faith ran deep; he was actively involved in religious education through the Society of Christian Doctrine, founded by St. George Preca.
In 1971, Carmel immigrated to the United States, settling in Detroit, Michigan. There, he worked with determination and pride, first at Chrysler and later at General Dynamics, supporting his family with love and dedication.
Carmel shared 70 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Catherine, a union built on deep devotion and mutual respect. Together, they raised two sons, Emmanuel and Andrew (Elizabeth), and were blessed with three grandchildren: Jessica (Kevin), Paul, and Olivia, who brought immense joy to his later years.
Carmel found peace and purpose in life's simple pleasures. He was an avid gardener, especially proud of the concord grapes he grew to make his own wine. He loved to fish, read philosophy, and could often be found tinkering in his workshop, where his hands were always busy and his mind engaged.
He is preceded in death by his siblings Lina, Andrew, and Ruby, and survived by his siblings Connie, Anna, and Joe.
Carmel will be remembered for his unwavering faith, humble wisdom, and the deep love he had for his family. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched and the values he instilled.
