Bruce R. Barnhart

Bruce R. Barnhart, age 93, of Novi, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025. Born on March 29, 1932, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Marion (Waller) and Raymond Barnhart, Bruce lived a long and fulfilling life marked by devotion to family, country, and his lifelong love of automobiles.
Beloved husband of Joan (Gronow) Barnhart for 70 wonderful years, Bruce was a dedicated family man who found his greatest joy in the company of those he loved. He was the proud father of Richard (Katherine) Barnhart, Douglas (Karen) Barnhart, Michael (Dana) Barnhart, and Susan (Donald) Lyford. He was a cherished grandfather to Joshua (Amy), Kalen (Jenny), Erin (Geovani), Lindsay, Ryan, Joseph (Kirsten), Taylor, Nicholas, and Samuel, and a proud great-grandfather of eight. Bruce was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Barnhart.
A gifted engineer with the Ford Motor Company and General Motors' Cadillac Division, Bruce combined over 35 years working in an industry he truly enjoyed. His passion for cars began early in life—he built his first car at a young age and never lost his fascination with mechanics and design. A true car enthusiast, Bruce owned and lovingly maintained a 1947 Lincoln and a 1931 Model A, among other vehicles. He enjoyed car shows, tinkering in the garage, and woodworking projects that showcased his craftsmanship and creativity.
Bruce honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, a proud veteran who carried that sense of service and dedication throughout his life.
He will be laid to rest with military honors at 11 am on Thursday August 7, 2025, at Great Lakes National Cemetery 4200 Belford Rd., Holly, Michigan.
Bruce's legacy of kindness, ingenuity, and unwavering love for his family will be remembered always.
