Barry Edward Detavernier, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, passed away peacefully at his home on October 23, 2024. He was surrounded by his loving family, who will forever hold him dear in their hearts.

Barry Edward was born on September 25, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan, to Edward Detavernier and Jean (Warden) Detavernier. He and his brother, Dennis Detavernier, grew up in Detroit and attended McKenzie High School where he graduated in the Class of 1960.

During his high school years, Barry Edward met the love of his life, Barbara Ann (Colquhoun) Detavernier, while drag racing with mutual friends. They married on October 5, 1963, at Saint Alphonsus Church and settled on Hipp Street in Dearborn. Together, they welcomed two children, Craig William (Catherine Marzolf) Detavernier and Carrie Jean (James) Starman, into their loving home.

Barry Edward dedicated himself to his family and community, finding joy in being an active member of Saint Sebastian Catholic Church and School in Dearborn Heights. He began a career at Ford Motor Company at 19 years old and attended Henry Ford Community College. Upon retirement from Ford Motor Company with 35 years of service, Barry Edward and Barbara Ann, along with their pets, enjoyed their time together in Lakeland, Florida, and South Lyon, Michigan, where he embraced his passions for cars and golfing.

As "Grandpa" to his four beloved grandchildren, Kyle Edward Detavernier (wife Jennifer Quitko), Erin Nicole Blatchford (husband Craig Blatchford), Michael George Betz (fiancé Gabrielle Troy), and Cara Ann Betz. Barry Edward showered them with love and many cherished moments of laughter and jokes.

Barry Edward's memory will be honored at a memorial service on Monday, October 28, 2024, at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in South Lyon, Michigan. Family visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by a memorial mass at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Michigan Community VNA Healthcare Hospice and Wellness

In the hearts of those who knew him, Barry Edward's legacy of love, kindness, laughter, and devotion will continue to shine brightly. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the eternal love of his family and friends.
