Obituary

Barbara Ann Detavernier, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away peacefully at her home on February 25, 2024. She was surrounded by her loving family, who will forever hold her dear in their hearts.
Barbara Ann was born on December 2, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan, to William Walker Colquhoun and Leocadia (Dzierga) Colquhoun. She was one of six daughters, Patricia Ann (Joseph) Ferguson, Cathleen Marie (Martin) Colbeck, Marsha Sue (David) Haley, Sandra Ann (Kenneth) Clark, and the late Margaret Mary(Ray) Mireles. Growing up in Dearborn, Michigan, Barbara Ann attended Saint Alphonsus Catholic Church and School, where she formed lasting connections with her community.
During her high school years, Barbara Ann met the love of her life, Barry Edward Detavernier, while drag racing with mutual friends. They married on October 5, 1963, at Saint Alphonsus Church and settled on Hipp Street in Dearborn. Together, they welcomed two children, Craig William (Catherine Marzolf) Detavernier and Carrie Jean (James) Starman, into their loving home.
Barbara Ann dedicated herself to her family and community, finding joy in being an active member of Saint Sebastian Catholic Church and School in Dearborn Heights. She also spent ten years driving a Special Education school bus for Dearborn Public Schools, touching the lives of many students. Upon retirement, Barbara Ann and Barry enjoyed their time together in Lakeland, Florida, and South Lyon, Michigan, where she embraced her passions for golfing and rubber stamping.
As "Baba" to her four beloved grandchildren, Kyle Edward Detavernier (fiancé Jennifer Quitko), Erin Nicole Blatchford (husband Craig Blatchford), Michael George Betz, and Cara Ann Betz. Barbara Ann showered them with love and cherished moments.
Barbara Ann's memory will be honored at a memorial service on Monday, March 11, 2024, at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in South Lyon, Michigan. Family visitation will begin at 10 a.m., followed by a memorial mass at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Michigan Great Lakes Alzheimer's Association www.alz.org/mglc/donate or the Michigan Community VNA Healthcare Hospice and Wellness, www.vna.org organizations close to Barbara Ann's heart.
