Obituary

Barbara Louise Thomson Brock, 72, passed away January 17, 2017. Barb is preceded in death by her identical twin Marjorie Linder, and parents Thelma and DeLacey Thomson. Barb is survived by her husband, Arthur J. Brock, Jr., daughter Michele (Randy), three grandchildren Lucy, Violet and Henry Sly, and her brother Doug (Anita) Thomson. She considered herself the luckiest girl when she fell in love with and later married Art. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in September. She loved and was so proud of Michele and her choice of a husband, Randy Sly. Barb believed she was born to be a Nana and could think of nothing that brought her greater joy. She marveled in everything her grandchildren did and often said she experienced her second childhood through them. She loved learning and teaching. Most of her 20-year special education teaching career was spent in Troy School District. She beamed over the accomplishments of her students, who never ceased to amaze her. Barb developed long-lasting relationships with her students, their families, and her colleagues. She loved the underdog. She was an unabashed liberal: She was philanthropic, and contributed to many causes. Barb had an infectious laugh, was generous beyond measure, and never met a stranger. She was always up for creating an adventure; she looked to the future and could be relied on to provide words of hope, love, and inspiration to others. Barb felt the most important thing was to live as good a life as possible and be kind and helpful to others, because these were the right and ethical things to do.
A celebration of her life will be held on February 11, 2017 at Lyons Oak Golf Course, 52251 Pontiac Trail, Wixom, MI at 10:30 AM. A luncheon will immediately follow the service, where we welcome attendants to share stories and memories of her wonderful life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the 5p- Society (fivepminus.org)
