Arsine (Kumjian) Nahabedian, 94
Shrewsbury, MA formally of West Bloomfield, MI

Arsine Nahabedian, 94, died in her home on Friday, May 15th, peacefully in her sleep. Her husband John Nahabedian predeceased her in 1986. Arsine is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Wendy and David Poelke of Sarasota, FL, and Gail and Joseph Aslanian of Shrewsbury, MA, and her only grandchild John Aslanian, of Boston, MA. Arsine also leaves a sister, Clara Peringian of Dryden, MI and a brother George Kumjian and wife Mary of St. Claire Shores, MI, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Martin Kumjian in 1985.

Born on December 21st, 1914, in Detroit, MI, daughter of Armenian immigrants Garabed and Anna Kumjian, Arsine grew up in Highland Park, MI, where she attended Highland Park High School and excelled as an athelete to the level of qualifying for the 1932 Olympic Games. Arsine worked for the Bell Telephone Company before moving to a then rural West Bloomfield, MI. She was active in the Red Cross, March of Dimes, Girl Scouts of America, as well as other school and civic organizations. After spending her winters in Florida, Arsine developed a special talent for making pine needle baskets and shellcraft of all kinds. Her work was well received and exhibited on many occasions.

Above all, Arsine was known for her active approach to life. In body, mind, and spirit, she inspired all who came into contact with her through the simple process of leading by example. Her enthusiasm and ambition, her wit and wisdom, will be remembered with joy.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service, Wednesday, May 20th, 11:00am, at Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens Resurrection Chapel, 43300 W. 12 Mile Road, Novi, MI.
