Alvin Spencer's Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Alvin V. Spencer Jr., who left this world on January 31, 2026, at the age of 57. Alvin lived a life rooted in love, laughter and his absence will be felt profoundly by all who knew him.
Born in 1968 to Nadine Gray and Alvin Louis Spencer, Alvin grew up surrounded by family and formed bonds that would define his life. A devoted son and brother, he was not only a sibling but a protector, confidant, and best friend to many. He carried that same spirit of closeness and care into every season of his life.
Alvin spent many years in Saginaw, Michigan, where his roots ran deep. He was married in Traverse City, Michigan, to his high school sweetheart, and together they shared 30 years of marriage and raised four children, who were the very center of his world. Later, Alvin made his home in the Detroit area, continuing to build a life defined by hard work and love.
Alvin was a devoted provider who built a strong and respected career in finance. He began his professional journey with Merrill Lynch in 1993, where his dedication and leadership quickly stood out. He later served as a Regional Manager at Stifel Financial Corporation, a role that reflected both his experience and the respect he earned throughout his career.
Yet Alvin's greatest achievements were never measured by titles. He was a man with an extraordinary heart, someone who made people feel seen, valued, and genuinely cared for. His infectious smile, generous spirit, and unmistakable sense of humor brought light into countless lives. Whether through his unwavering support or his perfectly timed comedic bits, Alvin had a gift for making others feel at ease and loved.
In September 2025, Alvin was diagnosed with ocular melanoma. He faced his illness with remarkable courage, grace, and optimism, never losing his smile. True to who he was, he continued sharing his daily selfies with friends and family, offering connection, comfort, and a reminder of his enduring spirit until the very end.
Alvin is survived by his former wife, Carolyn Spencer, and their four beloved children, Jasiah Spencer, Mitchell Spencer, Sara Spencer and Zachary Spencer, his mother, Nadine Escobedo, and stepfather, Pete Escobedo; his sisters, Janet Hershovitz, Ruth Escobedo, and Danette McClure; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members who cherished him deeply. He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Louis Spencer.
Alvin will always be remembered for his unwavering love, his kindness, his laughter, and the way he made life brighter simply by being in it. He never liked goodbyes and was famous for telling everyone, "I'll call you tomorrow." He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Donations in memory of Alvin can be made to the Ocular Melanoma Foundation
