Patricia L. Hanzek
February 5, 1958 - January 24, 2022
Patricia “Patty” Hanzek was born on February 5th, 1958 in Dearborn, Michigan. She was the third of seven Irish-Catholic children (Linda, Laura, Pam, Frank, Dan & Maureen), born to Frank and Rose Lane. Patty was a goal setter, even at a young age attending St. Albert the Great for grade school, followed by Annapolis High School, making National Honor Society and receiving academic scholarships. She began at the University of Michigan with a full-time job at Ford Motor Company, and two small children, and still rarely missed a school event or a ballgame. By the time she received her Master’s Degree at U of D, she had three young children (Kelly, Sean & Tommy) and still made the Dean’s List. She was always too humble to boast, but she was quite graceful, Irish Dancing her way onto the Bozo show, and even performing as a synchronized swimmer! Although she often faced an uphill battle as a working mother of three at Ford Motor Company, she was able to thrive as she climbed the ladder and retired as a highly respected Finance Manager after 36 years. While at Ford, Patty met her husband, Joseph Hanzek, where they dated for three years before getting married on March 28, 1992. Together they enjoyed traveling the world, family vacations, school activities and sideline banter throughout countless sporting events. Patty also loved to volunteer, making time to teach CCD at Our Lady of Victory, volunteering with Angela Hospice, and leading the Ford Christmas Drive each year. In addition to her philanthropic nature, Patty had a selfless devotion to her family, which was never more apparent than when her little sister Mo, who had type one diabetes, needed a match for a new kidney. Without hesitation, Patty stepped up in her sister’s time of need and donated hers. In retirement, Patty’s love of golf evolved, and once she and Joe became official ‘Snowbirds’ she was able to enjoy the links with her husband and friends, often going on golf trips and golfing in leagues multiple times each week. However, as much as she loved to golf, nothing compared to the joy she experienced when loving up on her nine adoring grandchildren, Alex, Danny, Luka, Mallory, Livvy, Tyler, Joey, Ryan, and Teagan. Patty loved holding her grandbabies, and reading books or playing games with the kids. Patty will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her fierce loyalty, her dedication to faith and family, her warrior spirit, her tremendous generosity, and most of all, her warm heart. There will be a viewing at O’Brien & Sullivan Funeral Home 2:00-8:00pm for all who would like to attend. Her funeral service for those who would like to join in celebrating her life is on the 28th of January at 11:00am, Our Lady of Victory Church in Northville MI. Memorial contributions may be directed to Angela Hospice Donations Landing - Angela Hospice Home Care
