Susan Pazgrat Selim
July 26, 1958 – January 20, 2024
Susan Pazgrat Selim, 65, of Novi, passed away unexpectedly on January 20, 2024. She was born July 26, 1958 to Edmund and Stella (nee Kosek) Pazgrat. Susan is survived by her beloved brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Lauren Pazgrat, Lauren's daughters Lyndsay (Aaron) Peabody and Terri Thompson, and grandchildren Troy and Leah Peabody. Also survived by many cherished family members and friends. Susan was predeceased by her beloved husband Georges Selim, dear sister Patricia Pazgrat, and loving parents Edmund and Stella Pazgrat.
Susan grew up in Grosse Pointe Woods, graduating from Grosse Pointe North High School in the Class of 1976. She attended the University of Michigan, where in addition to her studies, she explored her love of the arts through attendance at campus concerts, theater productions, and art exhibits. Following her attendance at Michigan, Susan worked as an administrative assistant in the U of M Department of Internal Medicine, and then for COSI, a software developer. She later became the showroom manager for Canon Business Solutions in Southfield. It was during her time at Canon that Susan completed a bachelor's degree in Marketing from Madonna University.
Susan met the love of her life, Georges Selim, when she worked in the Department of Internal Medicine. Following a decade together, they were married on August 9, 1997, sharing a remarkable partnership until Georges' death in 2013. Their marriage was a model of love, faith, and unwavering commitment to each other, as demonstrated by Susan's devotion to Georges as they faced his health problems.
During their years together, Georges and Susan enjoyed time in the kitchen, often preparing Iraqi foods, reflecting Georges' heritage. Susan was famous for her expertise in making Chrusciki (Angel Wings) at Christmas, using her maternal grandmother Sophie's prized original Polish recipe. Both possessing "green thumbs," Susan and Georges were proud of their garden, overflowing with tomatoes and fragrant herbs. And they shared a passion for Michigan football, attending many games in person, or as Georges' health declined, watching games at home.
In the years since Georges' passing, Susan focused her energies on relationships with friends and family. She found great joy in the simple things of life: working out with her gym "family," dinner and theater get-togethers, engaging in long phone conversations, listening to podcasts, and watching late-night talk shows and vintage movies. Susan had a razor-sharp mind, reciting movie trivia with remarkable accuracy, and eagerly engaging others in current-events discussions. Susan's enthusiasm for Michigan football was unceasing, and she was ecstatic about the team's recent national championship victory.
Susan's treasured circle of friends includes Mark, Liz, Colleen, Tommie, David, Loreta, Tricia, Mary, Charles, Peggy, and her cousin Cathy.
Susan will be greatly missed; her memory will live on in our hearts, forever.
