Steven G. Habbel, MD

On Sunday, January 26, 2020, Dr. Steven Habbel, beloved husband and father of two children, passed away at the age of 52. Steve was born May 9, 1967 in Detroit, Michigan. Graduating from Sterling Heights High School in 1985, he was voted the Most Optimistic, and most his patients and colleagues would concur. He earned his medical degree from Wayne State University in 1993, quickly becoming a fixture at Henry Ford Health System, having worked there for 24 years before his passing. Steve grew a large and devoted patient base, and was a treasured physician to many thousands of patients who often referred to him not only as their doctor, but also as friend. Dr. Habbel earned the Ponka Award from Henry Ford in 2019, representing the most caring physician. In his spare time, he loved playing the piano, and loved all things nature. He had a great curiosity and a high energy level. He was known for his quick wit, humor, infectious smile and for his kind and gentle spirit. Dr. Habbel is survived by his wife Beth, children Chloe and Matthew; his father John, brothers Paul (Colleen) and Ken, two nephews and extended family. A private ceremony was held in his honor at O'Brien-Sullivan Funeral Home and memorial donations can be made to the family by contacting the funeral home.
