Obituary: Sherman W. Farr (1946 - 2023)

Novi bid a fond farewell to a beloved member of its community, as Sherman W. Farr peacefully passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at the age of 77. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and cherished memories.

Born in 1946, Sherman lived a life full of adventure and joy. His warmth, kindness, and zest for life touched the hearts of everyone he met. He was a dedicated husband to his late wife, Helen, and a loving father figure to their two adopted children. Sherman is survived by his son, Robert, and daughter, Melissa.

Sherman's commitment to family was unwavering. He was a doting father to his son Robert (April), who blessed him with three grandchildren: Alexander, Madison, and Sarah. His daughter Melissa (Jim) brought two more grandchildren, Eleanor and Benjamin, into his life. Sherman's nurturing spirit and joyful presence made family gatherings truly special, creating bonds that will endure through generations.

Beyond his role as a father and grandfather, Sherman found companionship and happiness with his girlfriend, Linda Cutler. Their journey together added new chapters of love and adventure to his life.

Sherman's passions were as diverse as they were vibrant. He was an avid hunter, finding solace and challenge in the great outdoors. Many evenings were spent playing poker in the barn with friends, his laughter filling the air as he reveled in their company. Golfing was another cherished pastime, allowing him to combine competition with camaraderie. He looked forward to his annual vacations to Florida, where he shared sunny days with friends who quickly became like family.

Road trips held a special place in Sherman's heart. Traveling alongside Linda and his loyal companion Leo, he explored new horizons with an open heart and an infectious smile. His ukulele-playing skills added a musical touch to gatherings, often leading to impromptu sing-alongs that brought joy to all.

Sherman's hands were skilled at fixing things, a trait that mirrored his willingness to help others in any way he could. His generosity extended to spending time with loved ones, ensuring that every moment was cherished. His humor was a gift he readily shared, brightening the lives of those around him and making even the darkest days a bit lighter.

A man of honor and service, Sherman's commitment to his country was evident through his Military Honors. His service reflected his dedication to principles larger than himself, a trait that resonated throughout his life.
