Robert Thomas Scully Sr., age 79, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2025, at Henry Ford Genesys after a short illness. Bob was born on March 24, 1945, to Marjorie Rogan and Basil Scully. He grew up in Detroit and attended St. Monica's and later graduated from St. Mary's of Redford.
Bob married Patricia Whelan in 1965, and together they raised two sons. In 1967, Bob began his distinguished career with the Detroit Police Department, where he served at the 2nd precinct and later as vice president of the Detroit Police Officers Association. Bob retired from the Detroit Police Department in 1992 and continued his public service by becoming the executive director of the National Association of Police Organizations (NAPO) in Washington, D.C. He held this position until his retirement in 2001.
After retiring, Bob and Pat moved to Surprise, Arizona, where they enjoyed 24 years of sunshine and a well-deserved respite. Bob will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his career in law enforcement, and his tireless work on behalf of police officers nationwide. May he rest in peace.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Pat; sons, Rob (Melissa) and Kevin; and grandchildren, Jack, Kassidy, and Chase. Bob was also the dear brother of Sr. Beatrice Scully, a Little Sister of the Poor. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marge and Basil Scully, and his brother Larry.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring of 2025.
