Obituary

Pauline Barbara Schafer passed away May 7, 2014 in the Henry Ford Hospital in West Bloomfield, Michigan after a brief illness.

Pauline was born July 8, 1924 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School and Wayne State University in Detroit. On March 4, 1950 she married James E. Schafer from Bremen, Indiana who passed away in April 1997. They loved and were deeply devoted to each other. They both enjoyed to travel and together over the years they saw most of the United States and many countries in Europe and Asia.

Pauline is survived by her cousins, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and many friends who all cared for her very much.

Pauline worked for 27 years as a social worker for Children's Aid Society, Detroit in the Foster Care Department. She also volunteered for 16 years for the Travelers Aid Society at the Metro Airport and for 16 years as a volunteer for the Lincoln Park Historical Society.

Pauline was a member of Central Methodist Church, Detroit for 43 years and was most recently a member of Novi United Methodist Church.

After her husband's death, Pauline fulfilled a lifelong wish to live near the river and enjoyed seven years watching activity on the Detroit River in Trenton. In 2005, she moved to Fox Run in Novi, Michigan. She was very happy at Fox Run and participated in many activities there, including volunteering on the Diplomat and Grief committees.

A memorial to celebrate Pauline's life will be held on June 12, 2014, 11:00AM, at Fox Run. She will be interred next to her husband at Fort Custer National Cemetery.

Memorials in honor of Pauline may be sent to the Fox Run Resident Care Fund or the Henry Ford Hospital Early College Scholarship Program.
