Obituary for Nancy Marie (née Howells) Croad
Nancy Marie Croad, 79, of Syracuse, NY, formerly of Buffalo, entered unto rest at the home of her son in Novi, MI on Saturday, January 19, 2019 after a 10-month courageous and defiant battle with cancer. Her daughter, daughter-in-law, and two grandsons were by her bedside. She was born in Buffalo on June 27, 1939 and graduated from Bishop McMahon H.S., Buffalo, in 1958. After graduation, she worked as a secretary for Harry W. Boorman Co., which sold dictating machines, from 1958-1963. On December 1, 1957, Nancy met her future husband Terrence Edward Croad at Voelkers Bowling Center, Kenmore, NY. Nancy married Terrence on September 24, 1960 and raised her family in Buffalo for ten years. She relocated to Syracuse in 1970 with her husband and two children due to her husband's job at Niagara Mohawk Power Company. In 1977, Nancy started her own business as owner and operator of an at-home Family Day Child Care for more than 40 years, where she touched the lives of hundreds of children and their families in a loving way. She worked full time until March 2018 when she was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Nancy relocated temporarily to Novi, MI to live with her son and daughter-in-law while she received medical treatment.
She was a 48 year parishioner of St. Therese Parish/All Saints Church, Syracuse. Nancy loved her family dearly, including her five grandchildren. She also loved Elvis, watching the New York Yankees and Syracuse Orange. She was predeceased by baby boy Croad, her parents Marie Cecilia O'Neill Howells and Thomas Joseph Howells, and Terrence Edward Croad her loving husband of 55+ years. Her father Tommy, was 1933 New York State Golden Glove boxing Champion (126-pound, featherweight division), winning his title in Madison Square Garden.
Survivors: Son, Terry (Lori Gilman) of Novi, MI; daughter, Nanci Marie (Daniel) Mayo of Virginia Beach,; brother, Thomas (Arlene Regalla-deceased) Howells of Tonawanda, NY; two sisters-in-law, Judy (Chuck) George of Tonawanda, NY and Karen (Phil) Doyle of Barrington, IL; two brothers-in-law, Richard (Joanne Frandina-deceased) of Williamsville, NY and James (Marsha Mitchell) of Minden, LA; five grandchildren, Aaron (Michelle Burke) Croad, Britni Birt, Michelle Croad, Casey Croad and Zakari Mayo as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and Friends may call on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 between 4-8 PM at O'Brien Sullivan, 41555 Grand River Avenue, Novi, MI. Additional out of state visitation will be held Friday, January 25th between 7-9 PM and Saturday, January 26th between 12:00 till 1:30pm at Amigone Funeral Home, Tonawanda Chapel, 2600 Sheridan Dr., Tonawanda, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:15pm, Saturday, Jan. 26th at Holy Spirit Church, 85 Dakota Street, Buffalo. Committal services will follow at 4:15pm at Marilla Cemetery, Two Rod Road, Marilla, NY.
A prayer service will be held at 2 PM, on Sunday, January 27th, at All Saints Church, 1340, Lancaster Ave., Syracuse NY 13210.
