Mary Claire Stanners, lovingly known for her grace and devotion to family, She was born in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Earl and Vera Simmons (Reid).
Mary Claire was the beloved wife of the late Edward J. Stanners Jr., with whom she shared a life rooted in faith, love, and commitment. She was a devoted mother to Ann Marie (Michael) McCarthy and Martin A. (Bridget) Stanners, and she was preceded in death by her son, Edward J. Stanners III. She was also preceded in death by her cherished granddaughter, Farrell Ann Stanners.
A proud graduate of St. Mary's of Redford, Mary Claire carried her Catholic faith throughout her life, finding strength and comfort in it and passing those values on to her family.
She was a loving grandmother to Jack McCarthy, Caitlin (Michael) Ioffredo, Emma (Joshua) Schneider, Sarah (Alec) Tarnacki, Sean (Gabrielle Zuccaro) Stanners, Claire Stanners, and Abigail McCarthy. She was also a treasured great-grandmother to Henry Schneider, Nora Schneider, Marlowe Ioffredo, and Oliver Ioffredo, each of whom brought her great joy.
Mary Claire will be remembered for her quiet strength, her deep love for her family, and the care she showed to all who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7pm at O'Brien/Sullivan Funeral Home, 41555 Grand River Avenue, Novi, Michigan 48375. Visitation will continue on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at St. James Catholic Church, 46325 West 10 Mile Road, Novi, Michigan 48374, beginning at 11:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 12:00 p.m. (noon).
Mary Claire will be laid to rest at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield, Michigan, following the Mass.
