Linda Marie age 63, died at Arbor Hospice, in Saline, Michigan, on Monday, June 5, 2017. The cause of death was renal failure exacerbated by cancer. Born June 16, 1953, in Dearborn, Michigan, to Florence Mary (Cichonsky) Hemming and Gunnar Gerard Hemming, Linda graduated from Walled Lake Western High School - Class of 1971. She served as yearbook editor and was the senior attendant on the homecoming court. As a senior, she completed her final semester of high school from home in order to help care for her father, who had suffered a severe brain injury from an auto accident. During her teen years, she was a member of Jobs Daughters, serving in a number of officer positions, including queen. After high school, she attended a photography school in Atlanta, Georgia, before returning to Michigan, where she worked for Color By Spencer Photo, and later for The Combermere Stage. On September 30, 1978, Linda married Donn M. Smith. She and Donn lived on "The Bird Streets" of Commerce Township, Michigan for 36 years. In the 1990's, she began a 21-year career with Bloomfield Township. She spoke often about the wonderful people she worked with at the fire department, and those in nearby township offices. One of her fondest memories was the twenty-mile ride home on a Bloomfield Township fire truck after her retirement luncheon in 2016. Linda will be especially remembered for her love of gardening, her love of beagles, her endearing personality, and keen sense of humor. Linda's creative pursuits include photography, writing, and crafts such as art stamping and letterboxing. Postmen everywhere have openly admired her envelope designs as they deliver letters to family and friends. There was a special place in her heart for crafting friends, "The Clovers" and others whom gravitate to the biannual "Stamp Camps" in Jackson, Michigan. Linda also loved the serenity and beauty of the Upper Peninsula, where she and Donn spent many peaceful hours at their camp on Lost Creek in Big Bay near Marquette, Michigan. Linda displayed boundless creativity throughout her life. Her natural sense of design was peerless. She will be remembered as a compassionate and caring person who was dear to all who knew her. Survivors include her husband, Donn Smith, her brother, Donald Hemming, of Frankenmuth, Michigan, and her brother, Kenneth (Dianne) Hemming, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her father, Gunnar Hemming, and by her mother, Florence Hemming. A Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at 2:00 PM.
