Jacquelyn Jane Hargis

Jacquelyn Hargis, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on April 5, 1936, Jacquelyn lived a life full of love, creativity, and dedication to her family and passions. Jacquelyn is survived by her devoted husband of 70 years, Duane, who was the love of her life. Their bond was a testament to true love and companionship. Together, they raised five wonderful children: Ellen (David Douglass) Hargis, Julie (David) Landry (née Hargis), Elaine Winters (née Hargis), Michael (Jenny) Hargis, and Scott Hargis. Jacquelyn's legacy continues through her seven grandsons, one great-grandson, and one soon-to-be-welcomed great-granddaughter. A fantastic homemaker, Jacquelyn took excellent care of her family and home. She was a fabulous cook, with a passion for culinary arts. A big fan of Julia Child, she proudly owned a signed cookbook from the renowned chef. Her cooking skills were the highlight of many family gatherings and dinner parties. Jacquelyn had a deep appreciation for antiques and a remarkable talent for building miniature dollhouses. Her attention to detail and creativity shone through in every miniature she crafted. She shared her skills by teaching classes, bringing joy and knowledge to many aspiring miniature builders. Her creativity extended to gardening, knitting, crocheting, and sewing, filling her home with beautiful, handcrafted items. Never one to sit idly, Jacquelyn was active in her community, volunteering as a docent at Louisiana plantations and participating in the local garden club in Munising. After her children were grown, she embraced a love for travel with Duane, exploring the world together. Their adventures took them to Europe, China, Antarctica, South America, and beyond, creating cherished memories. Jacquelyn also delved into genealogy projects with Duane, uncovering their family histories and connecting with their roots. She loved throwing dinner parties, cooking delicious meals, and spending special moments with friends. Her warmth, creativity, and generosity touched the lives of all who knew her. Jacquelyn Hargis was an amazing person, and her spirit will be dearly missed. Her legacy of love, creativity, and dedication will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever. A private memorial service is planned for late summer. In lieu of flowers, donations would be gratefully accepted by the Hospice Department at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital
