Elizabeth "Jean" Pinkelman, a long time resident of Northville, passed away at her home on Wednesday, May 10 at age 82. Born to Josephine and Celsus Kirwan, Jean grew up in Detroit, attending St. Brigid Catholic School, Precious Blood Grade School, Immaculata High School, and the University of Detroit. Jean met Frank Pinkelman at a cabin on Pine Lake when he stepped forward to clean her muddied shoes. They were married at Duns Scotus College chapel on April 30, 1960. Frank and Jean lovingly raised 6 children, Frank (Wendy), Jim (Kate), Nancy (Gordon) Golm, Mike (Katie), Brian (Sarah) and Katie. Jean was the devoted grandmother of 14: Colleen, Maribeth, Rachel, Erin, Steven, Benjamin, Killian, David, Maeve, Erin, Nicholaus, Kevin, Mary Kate, and Celeste. Jean will also be dearly missed by her brothers, John (Helen) Kirwan and Joe (Mary Ellen) Kirwan and her loving nieces and nephews. Despite her ambivalence towards animals, Jean welcomed many pets into her home including an alligator, guinea pigs, fish, a cat, and several dogs — with Alfred now missing her greatly.
Jean centered her life around people. She was passionate about family, education, and early childhood development. Throughout her life, she made friends wherever she went. She connected strongly with others and many benefited from her being a gifted and compassionate listener and friend.
Visitation will be at O'Brien Sullivan Funeral Home, 41555 Grand River Ave., Novi 248-348-1800 on Sunday, May 14 from 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
