Arthur J. Brock Jr.'s Obituary

Art's Story, November 22, 1941 -

Art was not one to bring attention to himself and did not want a service. In fact, his summation would likely be:
One man grew up in a loving family, met and married the love of his life, found a great career he enjoyed, had a daughter of whom he was very proud, provided for his family, enjoyed extended family and grandchildren, and died. He lived a good life. His advise, "Put one foot in front of the other."
But, there is so much more to his life. Born in Hartford, CT to Mary and Arthur J. Brock, Sr., Arthur J. Brock, Jr. was raised in Lexington, MA. At 17, he entered the University of Miami, FL, and later graduated from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, FL with a B.S. in aeronautical science.
He was a Naval Aviator during Viet Nam. He was the sole survivor of a Naval mid-air collision in 1964. In 1972, Art joined Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors, eventually becoming Assistant General Sales and Service Manager for U. S. Chevrolet Service Operations. He was truly the customer's advocate. Often described as an exceptional leader, he held high expectations of himself and others, valued integrity, and exemplified fortitude in the face of adversity. He loved his work and valued the many friendships he forged. Art was known for his dry wit and had a joke for every occasion. He was well liked and admired by all who knew him.
In 1966, Art married Barbara Thomson Brock of Miami, FL, the blind date who became the true love of his life. In 1971, he welcomed daughter, Michele of whom he was deeply proud. He and his family lived in several states, and travelled to all but a handful. In the last decade of his life, his family grew to include son-in-law, Randy, and grandchildren Lucy (9), Henry (5) and Violet (5). His most cherished times were spent playing with grandchildren and enjoying the company of good friends and family.
Art is survived by, daughter, Michele (Randy Sly), grandchildren, Lucy, Henry, and Violet, sisters, Margaret Archer and Susan Brock, brother and sister-in-law, Peter (Alice) Brock. He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years (Barbara) and his parents.
