Margot Grace Gray

Margot was born in Detroit, Michigan and graduated from Cooley High School where she met W. “Tom” Gray the love of her life. They celebrated 69 years of marriage in June 2020. After high school graduation Margot attended Michigan State University, where she was active in the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She completed a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 1952 while Tom served in the US Army. Margot’s passion was teaching young children. She started teaching elementary school at the Army Base in Maryland where Tom was stationed. After moving back to Michigan, she taught first and second grade in the Ferndale School District and later was active in a Cooperative nursery school in Oak Park. After moving to Birmingham, she was the Director of a pre-school in Pontiac, Michigan. She and Tom lived 20 years at Canadian Lakes in Mecosta County, Michigan where she enjoyed boating, canoeing, bridge, needlepoint, and gardening (mostly flowers), as well as entertaining friends and family. She was a pioneer and active member of Chapel of the Lakes Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, directed Vacation Bible school, started a Choir, and served on the Finance Committee. She became a member of the Ferris State University President’s Club. She helped establish, recruit staff and taught at a pre-school on the campus. She helped establish and served as President of the Three Meadows Tree Farm. With Tom she enjoyed many winters in Arizona and traveled to Hawaii, the Alps, Scandinavia, and Russia. The last 15 years she resided at Fox Run Retirement Community in Novi and most recently in the Memory Unit at Rose Court. She enjoyed flower arranging, crafts, singing in the choir and most of all music by Michael Krieger. She was a member at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Birmingham for many years. Margot is survived by her loving husband Tom Gray; daughters Cynthia Facchinei (John), Cary, NC and Denise Barron, Bloomfield Hills, and son Wayne M. Gray, Belleville; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was loved deeply and will be truly missed by all that knew her. A special thank you to the staff at Rose Court, especially in the Memory Unit at, and the staff from Angela Hospice for their kind and loving care.
