Dr. Bud E Larson

September 24, 1951 - November 17, 2023 Dr. Bud E. Larson, 72, of Novi, passed away Friday evening, November 17, 2023, at Beaumont Hospital Farmington Hills surrounded by family. Bud was born on September 24, 1951, in Detroit, Michigan, to Dorothy (Sophie) and Elmer Larson. He attended University of Detroit Jesuit High School graduating with the class of 1969. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and demonstrated extraordinary bravery, discipline, and leadership throughout his military career. He served in Okinawa receiving the National Defense Service Medal and Rifle Sharpshooter Badge decorations. Following his honorable discharge from the Marines, Bud continued his pursuit of knowledge and service to others through his education at Michigan State University receiving a Bachelors of Science in 1975 and Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine in 1983. In between classes, he enjoyed playing softball and spending time with friends. After completing residency in anesthesia at Providence Hospital in Southfield, Michigan, he began his 40+ year career as an anesthesiologist at Botsford (Beaumont) Hospital in Farmington Hills, Michigan. His passion for education and his commitment to excellence paved the way for him to become the Anesthesia Department Chairman for 13 years. He inspired countless colleagues over the years. As a mentor and educator, he touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark on the Botsford (Beaumont) community. Through mutual friends, Bud met his future wife of 41 years, Jane, in 1980. They were married on August 7, 1982, in Orchard Lake, Michigan, and resided in Farmington Hills, Michigan, where Bud completed his medical training. Bud and Jane had three children, Michael and Thomas in 1983 and Sara in 1986. There was also a special place in his heart for family pets including his beloved Australian Shepherd, Tessa, and two cats, Patches and KitKat. Bud enjoyed participating in many hobbies such as golf, remote-controlled airplanes, drones, rockets, fishing, landscaping, and, most often, serving as the local “pool boy.” The role of Grandpa is one he took seriously as he hosted his two grandchildren, Addison and Leiana, each summer for “Camp Grandpa” organizing adventures like horseback riding, various trips around Michigan, beach fun in Florida, and judging pool diving contests to name a few. Bud will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering support for his family, friends, colleagues, and the Detroit Lions. His genuine compassion and willingness to assist others in need were evident in all aspects of his life including his volunteer work with the Pope Francis Center in Detroit, Michigan. He will be remembered not only for his accomplishments, but also for his warm smile, ability to uplift those around him, and deep love and commitment to family. Bud is survived by his loving family, friends, and colleagues including his wife, Jane; sons, Michael Larson and Dr. Thomas (Caroline) Larson; daughter, Sara Larson; grandchildren, Addison and Leiana; brother, Leonard (Len) Larson, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Dorothy (Sophie) Larson; brother, Dr. Ronald Larson; and sister, Shirley Larson. Visitation will be Saturday, December 16, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. with a Celebration of Life service beginning at 12:30 p.m. at O’Brien-Sullivan Funeral Home, 41555 Grand River Ave., Novi, MI 48375. A luncheon will follow at Brentwood Grille, 43150 Grand River Ave., Novi, MI 48375. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Pope Francis Center Rest in peace, Dr. Bud E.
