Died Saturday, June 30, 2012, age 85. She was a resident of Roscommon, Michigan and recently under hospice care in Novi, Michigan. She was born May 28, 1927 in Detroit to the late Arthur and Marion (Hawkins) Meyer. Mary Jo graduated from Immaculata High School and in 1949 graduated from the University of Detroit. On October 6, 1951 she married Joseph Jansen. She was a teacher in the Detroit Public Schools over a span of 33 years. Mary Jo was inventive in her carpentry and maintenance skills as well as creative in her many beautiful oil paintings. League and tournament golf were passions she took seriously. Social gatherings, happy hour, and playing cards were often on her calendar. She was always ready with a joke and smile, and will be greatly missed.

Mary Jo is survived by five children, Terry Jansen, Joan (Richard) Dunn, Joseph (Beverly Schwagle) Jansen, Peter (Deborah Day) Jansen, Mary Ann (Metin) Dogu; a sister Sally Stemmer of Farmington Hills and a brother James (Ede) Meyer of Traverse City; eight grandchildren, Kyeshna (Chris Morehouse) Jansen, John (Rebecca) Jansen, Jennie Jansen, Alex Dogu, Mark (Su-Young) Schwagle, Matt Schwagle, James (Kristin) Dunn and Joseph Dunn; six great-grandchildren, Kailey Swiss, Travis and Alexis Morehouse, Natalie Jansen, Joseph and Daniel Schwagle; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, on January 23, 2009. Family will receive friends Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 10 a.m. with a prayer service at 12 noon in the Belmont Clubhouse at Fox Run, 41100 W 13 Mile Rd, Novi, MI. Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery, Southfield, MI at a later date.
